What happened to the videos
The recovered page carries only its heading and the line “The course of Irish History on video”. The videos themselves were not preserved, so they cannot be shown here. A related page, the course of Irish History video index, keeps the series’ thumbnails in their original order; its note explains that the videos ran from the top left and that clicking an image once opened a video in a new browser window.
Irish history in print
The history that the videos covered is well represented in the site’s books. The Book list includes general histories such as The Story of Ireland by Emily Lawless, Ireland by Charles Johnston and An Illustrated History of Ireland from AD 400 to 1800 by Mary Frances Cusack. For Dublin in particular, the Chronology of Dublin history gives a year-by-year outline, D.A. Chart’s The Story of Dublin describes the city district by district, and the Accounts of the Easter Rising record the events of 1916 in the words of people who lived through them. Older periods are covered by The History and Antiquities of Dublin by Harris, first published in the eighteenth century, and by The Irish Parliament. A full listing of the books divided into chapters is on the all chapters page.
