About FreeFind

FreeFind is an external site-search service that indexes a website’s pages and returns matching results on its own advertising-supported pages, which explains the apology for advertising in the original text below. The link is kept as it was, but the service is run separately from this site and its index may not reflect the current version of Chapters of Dublin.

Finding material on the site today

The current site has a search button in the bottom right corner of every page, which matches chapter titles and summaries as you type. Browsing is often just as quick. The all chapters page lists every chapter by book, and the Book list gathers the full-length texts.

Readers looking for a particular place can start with F. Elrington Ball’s History of County Dublin, An Irishman’s Diary on the Neighbourhood of Dublin or North Dublin by Dillon Cosgrave. For a street, Dublin Street Names, Dated and Explained is arranged alphabetically. For a period, the Chronology of Dublin history is the best starting point, and for people, memoirs such as Personal Recollections of Lord Cloncurry and Seventy Years of Irish Life by W.R. Le Fanu are rich in names. To find a word inside a long page, the browser’s own find command (Ctrl+F, or Cmd+F on a Mac) works well.
