About this page

The bookstore belonged to the 2007 version of the site, which was built on a design theme called “Wings”. The archived copy keeps only the page banner and the copyright line; whatever books or links it listed were not captured, so they are not reproduced here.

Reading the books online

The core of Chapters of Dublin is its archive of older books on the city and on Ireland, now out of copyright and published here in full. The Book list gathers the full-length texts, among them The Story of Ireland by Emily Lawless, Ireland Since Parnell by D.D. Sheehan and James Joyce’s Ulysses. Books divided into chapters include A History of the City of Dublin by J.T. Gilbert, The History and Antiquities of Dublin by Harris, North Dublin by Dillon Cosgrave and Memorable Dublin Houses by Wilmot Harrison. The all chapters page lists everything on the site, grouped by book.

Modern books on Dublin

Because copyright lasts for 70 years after an author’s death, recent books cannot be reproduced on the site. One page does cover modern writing, however: Dublin books by Peter Pearson is an interview with the author of The Heart of Dublin and Between the Mountains and the Sea, a history of Dún Laoghaire and the surrounding area. Readers who know of out-of-copyright books suitable for the archive can suggest them through the contact page.
